2 Corinthians 10:5 (KJV)
5 "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
Oftentimes we struggle with intrusive thoughts. Those thoughts that distract us, discourage us, and draw us away from the peace of God. They tell us lies about who we are, question our salvation, or plant seeds of doubt about God’s goodness. But we must remember something important, our thoughts don’t define us, God’s Word does.
Intrusive thoughts aren’t conquered by dwelling on them, they’re conquered by trusting in Jesus, who has already won the battle for our minds and hearts. The key to peace is not controlling your thoughts but surrendering them to God.
Intrusive thoughts often stem from our tendency to trust ourselves. We rely on our own logic, emotions, and experiences rather than God’s Word. Even in front of the word of God, we tend to trust our thoughts and feelings above His word. When we forget how desperately we need God every moment, we fall back into the trap of believing the lies our thoughts tell us. When we trust in our thoughts instead of God, we’re like Peter stepping out of the boat. The moment he took his eyes off Jesus, he began to sink. The same is true for us. Intrusive thoughts gain power when we focus on them instead of fixing our eyes on Christ.
Jesus died to set us free, not just from sin but also from the power of our thoughts. When intrusive thoughts creep in, we have a choice: believe the lies or stand on the truth of the gospel. The gospel reminds us that we are already holy, righteous, and perfect in God’s eyes because of Jesus.
Peace isn’t found in silencing the voices in our head, it's found by turning up the volume of the gospel in our hearts. We must make the gospel the loudest voice. This drowns out those intrusive voices and thoughts.
We must recognize that intrusive thoughts are part of being human. Don’t deny them or fight them in your own strength. We must learn to replace the lies with truths. That truth is the gospel and God's word. Use Scripture to combat the lie. Bring your thoughts to God in prayer. Remind yourself daily of the finished work of Jesus. That you are already loved, forgiven, and accepted.
Only the Word of God can silence the lies of the enemy.

Colossians 3:13 (KJV)
13 "Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye."
Forgiveness is one of the hardest things to give but one of the most powerful gifts we can receive. When someone has hurt or wronged us, our natural instinct is to hold onto the pain, replaying the situation in our minds and allowing bitterness to take root. But Colossians 3:13 reminds us that forgiveness is a way to live like Christ.
Forgiveness isn’t about freeing them; it’s about freeing you.
Forgiveness is a choice to step out of the role of a victim and into the role of an overcomer. It’s not about excusing what someone did or pretending it didn’t hurt. It’s about releasing the power that hurt has over your heart and allowing God’s grace to fill the space where anger and pain once resided.
When you forgive, you’re not losing, you’re winning by letting go of what’s been holding you back.
Forgiving someone doesn’t mean they were right, and it doesn’t mean justice doesn’t matter. It means you’re choosing to let God handle what only He can. Holding onto unforgiveness keeps you locked in the role of a victim, replaying the pain and letting it define you. But when you forgive, you release yourself from that cycle. You allow God to heal your heart, to transform your pain into peace.
It lets you move forward without the burden of bitterness weighing you down.
When you hold onto unforgiveness, you remain tied to the pain of the past. But forgiveness allows you to step into a new role. One of strength, peace, and liberty. Jesus showed us what it means to overcome. Even as He hung on the cross, falsely accused and suffering for sins He didn’t commit, He said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do".
Once your forgive, you are no longer defined by what someone else did to you. We must remember that no amount of hurt can change your identity as a beloved child of God. When you forgive, you thrive. You break free from the chains of anger, resentment, and victimhood, stepping into the peace and joy that God has for you. Forgiveness allows you to focus on what truly matters which is a relationship with God and Jesus.
I hope today we can break the cycle of pain and allow God's grace to flow inside of our hearts. Amen!
