Called to Carry What Only God Can Keep (08/09 Devotional)
Numbers 4:3 (KJV)
"From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation."
In Numbers 4, the Kohathites had to carry the most holy things but never touch them directly. If they did, they would die. Why? Because holiness belongs to God alone. It wasn’t their job to make the holy things holy, instead they only carried what God instructed.
This is a picture of our salvation. We are called to carry the gospel but not to make ourselves holy. Holiness is already in the gospel because it’s Jesus Himself who is holy. If we try to "touch" it with our own works, pride, or self-righteousness, we turn life into death.
Holiness is not our achievement, it's our inheritance.
When you try to be the holiness instead of bearing the holiness of Christ, the weight will crush you. What’s one area in your life where you’ve been trying to touch what only God can keep holy?
I hope we all can join the bible class today on Numbers 4. God has a special message for those who are carrying the burdens of others. We could be potentially breaking out backs spiritually because we are carrying something God never intended us to.
