Philippians 2:5-8
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Many of us want to be humble but struggle at times especially when others are being aggressive or disrespectful towards us.
God wrote these verses to highlight the core of Jesus' heart and his thought process. Despite being in the form of God, Jesus threw away His divine status. He humbled Himself, becoming a servant and obediently accepting death on the cross for us. He knew that some wouldn't believe, others would go astray, and some would even make a mockery of his death. But still, our faithful Lord and savior suffered until the very end for our reconciliation.
He became wrong in order to make us right with God.
He accepted fault even when he was 100% right. He became a sinner even though he knew no sin. He gave up his life in order to give us life. He modeled humility and humbleness yet many of us don't want to be wrong even in the slightest of things.
Part of living a spiritual life involves accepting fault, even when we believe we are not wrong. When we are wrong, hearts open up and allow us to preach this precious gospel. Everyone wants to be right, so it is indeed rare to see when someone accepts fault especially when it's not their own. We have a natural inclination to defend ourselves and prove our correctness.
So when people see that we accept even when we are not at fault, hearts truly change. Accepting fault when we are not wrong is a powerful testament to Jesus' love. It shows others that we value relationships and their well-being over our own pride. Understand? This selfless act can soften hearts and create opportunities for sharing the gospel.
Being wrong in the eyes of human beings is okay because our identity and righteousness are found in Christ alone. Jesus has already judged us as righteous and holy, freeing us from the need to always be right. If you accept this, you will prioritize love and unity over selfish pride.
Accepting fault to maintain peace is being Christ like. Being wrong in order to save a soul is what Jesus demonstrated for us. Try to understand that others may be hurting or struggling, and that your humility is can be a source for their healing and connection.
Pray this with me:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of humility given to us by Jesus Christ. Help me to embrace humility in my life, accepting fault even when I am not wrong, to show Your love and grace to others. Strengthen my heart to prioritize relationships and the gospel over my pride. Thank You for justifying me through Jesus, freeing me to live humbly and selflessly. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Love yall!
