Luke 4:18
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Many people are captivated by the idea of healing physically. They've experienced healing of cancer, trauma, and even addictions. But the bible speaks about the true essence of healing. Of course Jesus healed the sick, gave vision to the blind, ressurected people, and healed the brokenhearted. But his main purpose was to heal us from the bonds of Satan and reconcile us back to God through the gospel. He restored us spiritually, those who were plagued by the cancer of sin transmitted to us by Satan.
Jesus' ministry included miraculous physical healings, but His ultimate mission was deeper: to heal the brokenhearted by setting them free eternally. We are no longer in bondage to Satan and his sin. We are perfected forever and that is all thanks to Jesus. We were sick sinners but are now healed saints.
Jesus addressed the core issue of our separation from God due to sin.
Many people today are brokenhearted and feel like captives, whether due to personal failures, addictions, or the burdens of life. Jesus came to heal these deep wounds through his gospel. He brings hope, forgiveness, and a new beginning through the eternal healing of salvation. True healing comes from accepting the gospel into our hearts. The change in our hearts due to the gospel allows us to also heal physically. We live with more hope in our hearts and more peace knowing that we are free from the bonds of sin. This precious gospel allows our physical, mental, and emotional health to improve dramatically.
In the pursuit of physical healing and spiritual gifts, many people lose sight of the primary message of the gospel. These "gifts" often times distract us from the fundamental truth that Jesus came to heal our broken relationship with God. Satan does the job of makjing us miss the forest for the trees. He distracts us from healing spiritually by making us focus on physically healing and miracles.
Jesus' primary focus was on spiritual healing, which has eternal significance. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me," Jesus said, "to set at liberty them that are bruised." True freedom and healing come from embracing the gospel and allowing Jesus to liberate us from sin, guilt, and shame. When we trust in Him and His sacrifice, we experience the fullness of His healing power.
I want you guys to reflect on your own life and where you seek healing. Are you focused more on physical or emotional needs rather than on spiritual restoration? Jesus' mission was to bring the gospel that truly heals us spiritually. I hope we can all focus on that. Prayer is nice, tithing is great, offering medical advice is amazing, but we must always remember that the gospel is the ultimate healer. We should give them the true antidote to eternal life, which is the gospel.
Amen!
